The TATRA chasis design is based on the time-proven idea of a backbone tube. No other truck can follow an uneven road profile in the same way as a TATRA truck. Excellent driving characteristics, especially in off-road environments, result from the special design of the chassis. The sturdy backbone tube consists of the central load-carrying tube, independently suspended half-axles and cross-members. In comparison with a conventional design truck you get a very rigid load carrying structure distinguished mainly by

  • several times higher torsion strength

  • very high bend strength


  • These features result in some further advantages :
  • low torsion and bending load transferred to a superstructure, enabling the manufacturers to join it with the undercarriage in a simple manner

  • low requirements towards additional (upper) frame dimensions

  • simple design of additional equipment attachment(s) - drawgear for a trailer, fixing points for the front blade(s)


  • Half-axles independent suspension ensures:
  • efficient vibration deadening

  • transfer of the torque to all wheels

  • outstanding off-road performance

  • high operational speed on poor roads and off-road

  • wide range of applications in most varying service conditions
